Abstract

Olivetti. Formes et Recherche is a synchronic exhibition organised by the Cultural Relations, Industrial Design and Publicity Department of Ing. C. Olivetti & C., S.p.A. (1969-1971). It marks a turning point in the communication techniques of the Olivetti company. This text intends to focus on the role played by the international exhibition Formes et Recherche in the spread abroad of the culture of design and the identity of the Ivrea-based industry, through the use of new languages and communication devices typical of the new age of electronics.

Author Biography

Pier Paolo Peruccio, Politecnico di Torino

Historian of design, he is an associate professor of design at the Polytechnic of Turin where he teaches Theory and history of systemic design.
He is deputy coordinator of the College of Design, Director of the Master in Design for Arts at Politecnico di Torino and head of the Sydere Center at the ECAM University of Lyon.
He conducts research on the history of design, environmental sustainability and corporate culture. Co-director of series for the publishers Electa and Allemandi, he was responsible for the "Design" section of the monthly Giornale dell'Architettura from 2002 to 2012 (from 2004 with Elena Formia) and he is currently in the editorial boards of various design journals.
Member for many years of the Commission for the selection of theoretical, historical and critical books and writings relating to the design of the ADI Design Index Observatory, he edited the Italian edition of In the Bubble by John Thackara (2008) and the volume Storia Hic et Nunc. La formazione dello storico del design in Italia e all’estero (with Dario Russo, 2015). He is the author of La ricostruzione domestica (2005) and Storie e cronache del design (with Elena Formia, 2012).
