The democratization of complexity

Dissemination of Data in Knowledge Dissemination Processes

Keywords: Data Visualization, Information Design, Knowledge Democratization

Abstract

The exponential increase in the amount of data available and the related strategies and methods for their dissemination highlights today, more than in the past, the need to build a critical point of view on the tools and languages developed to date at the centre of the debate for the publication of the complex science. Indeed, more and more designers are confronted with the design of visual artefacts that, through the use of clear languages, can put end-users in a position to easily access the complex contents that contemporary offers us.
This paper, therefore, proposes a historical-critical analysis of the foundational steps of information design, intending to try to understand its effects in terms of dissemination of information, but also trying to bring out that component of public utility implicit in the processes of democratization of access to complex content.
