Archival material between preservation and dissemination

Abstract

Starting with the analysis of the issues of "Progetto Grafico" magazine published between 2003 and 2022, the article observes how the archival materials from the Aiap Centro di Documentazione del Progetto Grafico has been used within the magazine by the same association. The analysis makes it possible to detect different ways of using the material throughout the several editorial projects and the directions that followed one another. The goal is to identify possible strategies for the use and the reactivation of this archival material within the magazine.

Jonathan Pierini, ISIA Istituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche di Urbino

He is a type and graphic designer. He holds a BA in graphic design and visual communication from ISIA Urbino and an MA in Type and Media from KABK, the Royal Academy of Arts of The Hague in the Netherlands. In London, he worked at Dalton Maag Ltd type design office (2010/2011). Between 2011 and 2017 he was Researcher and Assistant Professor in Graphic Design at the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bolzano. Since September 2017 Jonathan has been Director at ISIA Urbino where he teaches History of the Book and Printing. Since 2017 he is editor of Progetto Grafico magazine.

Gianluca Camillini, Facoltà di Design e Arti, Libera Università di Bolzano

Gianluca Camillini is an Italian designer, lecturer and scholar in the field of visual communication. He combines research and teaching with practice, encompassing design history and criticism. After his BA and MA degree at ISIA Urbino, he obtained a PhD in typography and visual communication at the University of Reading in the UK. Since 2013 he works as a researcher and adjunct professor in graphic design at the Faculty of Design and Arts – Free University of Bolzano. He is editor of Progetto Grafico magazine since 2017.
