Abstract

The report The Limits to Growth underwent translation into over 30 languag- es and was disseminated widely, attaining a status of pervasive citation across a spectrum of professional fields including architecture, geography, design, economics, sociology, environmental studies, political science, and scientific disciplines. The aim of the paper is threefold: to place the well-known book The Limits to Growth in the context of the global debate on design; to re-es- tablish a potential heritage of the book in terms of its design dimension; and finally to trace a red thread between the genesis of the report and industrial culture in Italy.
