Abstract

A contribution by François Burkhardt opens the Palimpsests section which will include writings that, although not strictly of history, are connected to each other by the certainty that they tell us important things about design and its culture.

Author Biography

François Burkhardt, Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar

Architect, he deals with urban, architectural and industrial design. He was director of important institutions and museums including the Kunsthaus in Hamburg, the IDZ in Berlin, the Center George Pompidou in Paris. He has collaborated with numerous research centres and companies in Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy. Numerous his publications and design exhibitions organized in different countries. He was editor of international design and architecture magazines including «Domus» and «Rassegna».
A former professor of theory and history of design at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar (HBKsaar), he has lectured in all the most important design schools.
