Abstract

Augusto Morello's text entitled "Design and Project" introduces Plastics and Design, the second volume of the series "From the project to the product", Arcadia editions (1984), dedicated to some great industries of Italian design (Olivetti, Zanotta, Alessi, Danish, Kartell). Plastics and Design is aimed at the work of the Kartell company. The book is divided into two distinct parts: Augusto Morello's “Material culture and material culture” and Anna Castelli Ferrieri's “Projects and reality of Kartell”. Morello's writings are mainly placed on a theoretical level, deepening the "project-product-consumption" relationship and the history of plastics and the first applications in the field of industrial design, up to introducing the case of the Kartell company which is then examined in detail in the texts by Anna Castelli Ferrieri in the second part of the book. The text proposed here was therefore chosen as a reference precisely with respect to that "material culture and culture of materials" that the same issue 4 of the journal proposed to deepen.
